Albania, a region of exceptional natural beauty in southeast Europe, is known for its harsh mountainous terrain. This nation is home to some of the most stunning mountain ranges in the European Union, nestled between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. The dedication of Albania to protecting these pristine areas is admirable because it not only protects the rich diversity of ecosystems but also promotes sustainable tourism and economic development.
Albania's mountainous regions, such as the Albanian Alps, the Pindus Mountains and the Korab-Koritnik Massif, stand as testament to the country's commitment to environmental stewardship. Through protected areas, sustainable tourism initiatives, and community involvement, Albania is not only preserving its natural heritage but also setting an example for responsible conservation practices within the EU. The dedication to these majestic landscapes ensures that future generations can continue to marvel at the beauty and biodiversity that these mountains hold.
The below projects actively support research and life in Portuguese marginalised mountain areas. MARGISTAR believes in their efforts and invites you to follow these projects online or connect with their representatives within the MARGISTAR consortium.
